چکیده

The use of cold-formed steel (CFS) back-to-back channels as floor joists is increasing steadily, and such beams often include un-stiffened holes for installation services, which reduces their flexural strength due to the reduced web area. A new generation CFS with edge-stiffened has been widely used. However, no research undertaken understand effects composite actions on moment capacity built-up beams. In this paper, fourteen experiments are reported various hole spacing, were tested under four-point loading. Finite-element models also established validated experiments. Upon validation, a parametric study involving 63 FEMs was conducted investigate beam length, diameter hole, stiffener length fillet radius. test results show that five holes, increased by 15.4%, compared plain channel. For comparison, same section had 15.1% reduction in capacity. Test distortional buckling predominant failure mode all cases. FE against design capacities predicted American Iron Steel Institute (AISI) Australian New Zealand Standards (AS/NZS) channels. procedure proposed Moen Schafer. It revealed these equations conservative around 23% 49% respectively.

Back-reaction effects in acoustic black holes

Acoustic black holes are very interesting non-gravitational objects which can be described by the geometrical formalism of General Relativity. These models can be useful to experimentally test effects otherwise undetectable, as for example the Hawking radiation. The back-reaction effects on the background quantities induced by the analogue Hawking radiation could be the key to indirectly observ...

Performance of Stiffened Slender Built up Steel I-Columns

Abstract—The present work illustrates a parametric study for the effect of stiffeners on the performance of slender built up steel Icolumns. To achieve the desired analysis, finite element technique is used to develop nonlinear three-dimensional models representing the investigated columns. The finite element program (ANSYS 13.0) is used as a calculation tool for the necessary nonlinear analysi...

Neural Prediction of Buckling Capacity of Stiffened Cylindrical Shells

Estimation of the nonlinear buckling capacity of thin walled shells is one of the most important aspects of structural mechanics. In this study the axial buckling load of 132 stiffened shells were numerically calculated. The applicability of artificial neural networks (ANN) in predicting the buckling capacity of vertically stiffened shells was studied. To this end feed forward (FF) multi-layer ...

Stiffened Springback Reflectors

The recently developed Spring Back Reflector has low stiffness in the deployed configuration. A general method of stiffening this type of reflector without changing its folding properties is presented. The stiffening is achieved by adding a conical skirt around the edge of the dish; this skirt snaps elastically when the dish is folded. The paper concludes that it is possible to design spring ba...

Encapsulated Thermionic Energy Converter with Stiffened Suspension

This paper reports a prototype of a mechanically and thermally robust encapsulated microfabricated thermionic energy converter (μ-TEC). We used conformal sidewall deposition of poly-SiC to form stiff suspension legs with U-shaped cross sections, which increase the out-of-plane rigidity and prevent contact with the substrate during the heating of the suspended emitter—a qualitative improvement o...
